LayerZero, a leading blockchain platform, is targeting genuine users for its airdrop program. In a recent announcement, CEO Bryan Pellegrino outlined the company’s approach to airdropping by focusing on users who are committed to the platform. This initiative stems from the ongoing Sybil process, where out of the initial six million wallets, three million users who have sent less than five transactions are under scrutiny.
To combat network spam and ensure the distribution of airdrops to valuable users, LayerZero has implemented measures such as deweighting transactions worth less than $1 by 80%. Despite the reduction in weight, these transactions will still count, albeit at a lower rate. Similarly, ‘valueless NFT’ transactions, defined as those with minimal value or volume, are also deweighted by 80% but continue to count at a reduced rate.
Gas-drop transactions play a role in normalizing transactions, with normalization based solely on the protocol fee rather than the blockchain processing fee. This approach is aimed at promoting fair and efficient distribution for the protocol by eliminating spam and Sybil accounts while rewarding early and loyal users. The CEO emphasizes the importance of these practices in ensuring a transparent and equitable airdrop process.
With the ongoing Sybil exercise, LayerZero has identified that out of six million registered users, only a fraction are unique, with a significantly smaller number participating in the Sybil check. Despite these challenges, Bryan Pellegrino remains committed to releasing the final Sybil checklist before mid-2024. This milestone marks the culmination of efforts to address spam, verify user authenticity, and uphold the integrity of the airdrop program.
